
Meron Hacohen is a member of the Israeli Bar Association with extensive experience in both private practice and the public sector in Israel. Until 2007 he was the Minister for Commercial Affairs at the Embassy of Israel in London. He represented Israeli trade interests in the UK and assisted foreign investors and companies by coordinating and facilitating the business contacts and regulatory environment which they needed to successfully operate or invest in Israel. Meron left the Government after returning to Israel from London, and is working at Asserson Law Offices as a consultant.
Prior to his position in the UK, Meron served as Chief Legal Advisor of Israel’s Ministry of Industry & Trade. He was involved in various regulatory and policy fields including introducing new incentive schemes for capital investment in Israel and Consumer Protection. Meron was a member of the government task force that designed the policy for developing Israel's High Tech sector and creating new jobs and opportunities for the skilled immigrants who arrived in Israel during the 1990s from the CIS. Meron also took a leading role in various trade talks and Free Trade Agreements between Israel and other countries, including the trade agreement between Israel and Jordan which was signed as part of the peace process between the two countries.
Whilst in the government, Meron served also as a board member of the Industrial Development Bank of Israel Ltd.; Israel's Council of Consumers; the Advisory Committee of Israel's National Mediation Centre; and the German Foundation "Remembrance, Responsibility and Future", that was founded by German industry, to compensate people who were slave labourers and forced labourers during the Holocaust and WWII.
Before joining the government, Meron clerked for Justice Prof. Menachem Elon, Deputy President of Israel’s Supreme Court and practiced in two of Israel’s largest law firms, Yigal Arnon & Co. and Balter, Goth, Aloni & Co. He then moved on to serve as a legal advisor in United Mizrachi Bank of Israel where he specialized in Corporate and Banking Law, Insolvency and Business Recovery plans.
