Katherine Taylor is a litigation lawyer at Asserson Law Offices. Prior to joining ALO, Katherine practiced with Sullivan & Cromwell LLP in New York and with Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP in Montreal.

Katherine is qualified as an attorney in New York and a lawyer in Quebec. She graduated with a combined LL.B. and B.C.L. (Civil Law) with Great Distinction from McGill University, where she was awarded the I.M.E. Prize in Commercial Law, the Spiegel Sohmer Prize in Tax Law, and the John W.C. Cook, K.C. Prize. During her studies, Katherine competed in the Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna, Austria. Katherine also holds a First Class Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia, where she was awarded multiple prizes and scholarships.

Katherine has a wide range of litigation experience, with particular expertise in international commercial litigation, regulatory enforcement and white-collar defence, and securities and tax law. Her experience includes:

  • Acting for Chrysler LLC in disputes arising out of U.S. bankruptcy restructuring;
  • Acting for Barclays plc in multiple securities class actions;
  • Defending major reinsurer SCOR in fraudulent inducement claim in connection with offshore joint venture;
  • Acting for BP plc and BP America Inc. in multiple Commodity Futures Trading Commission and Department of Justice investigations and parallel civil proceedings relating to energy trading;
  • Acting for an executive of a large Swiss energy trading company in internal investigation of compliance with NYMEX rules;
  • Advising an Argentine pipeline company regarding internal investigation of alleged violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act;
  • Advising major U.S. utility companies regarding compliance and regulatory oversight issues in connection with energy trading activities;
  • Defending a major pharmaceutical company in class actions involving product liability claims;
  • Acting for American Express in multiple fraud cases;
  • Advising on cross-border tax planning aspects of $7.7 billion merger between Adolph Coors Co. and Molson Inc.;
  • Advising on tax planning aspects of $960 million acquisition of recreational products division of Bombardier.
