Elliot Lister is a UK solicitor in practice at Asserson Law Offices in Israel. Elliot worked in the UK for over ten years, where he was an associate in the litigation departments at two Manchester city centre firms. Elliot is recommended by the Legal 500 which describes him as “dedicated and creative”.

Elliot graduated in English and Russian from the University of Birmingham, where he served as President of the student body. He began his working life as a lobbyist for human rights in the FSU before moving to law, where he achieved commendations in the Graduate Diploma in Law Common Professional Examination at the University of Central Lancashire, and in the Diploma in Legal Practice at the Manchester Metropolitan University.

Elliot’s recent experience includes a wide variety of international disputes including:

  • partner acting for a Gibraltar SPV established to develop a £13million development project in Central London and two of its Israel based shareholders in a dispute with their joint venture partner who defrauded the company and misappropriated funds. Elliot obtained a worldwide freezing order in the Chancery Division of the High Court, supported by a freezing order in the Royal Court of Jersey. The case involves a number of cross border issues between England, Gibraltar, Jersey, Switzerland and Israel, many arising out of enforcement of a summary judgment obtained.
  • partner acting for a special purpose vehicle set up for the large scale development of residential property on a 186 hectare plot in Sofia, Bulgaria. The client company was set up by an Israeli property developer who splits his time between Jerusalem and Sofia. Elliot was instructed to defend the Bulgarian company against Credit Suisse’s claim of circa €25 million and to counterclaim for damages potentially in excess of €150 million arising out of Credit Suisse’s decision not to provide the second tranche of its promised loan and not to allow the Bulgarian company to refinance without paying an early redemption penalty, thus prejudicing the entire development. Elliot successfully marshalled the defence of Credit Suisse’s application for summary judgment on the Bulgarian company’s counterclaim. The decision of Hamblen J was reported at [2010] EWHC 2759 (Comm).
  • partner acting for a Tel Aviv Stock Exchange listed European real estate company in relation to an ICC arbitration claim with a London seat against a major Central European finance company. The claim relates to a co-investment facility agreement governed by Cypriot law for the purpose of specified Eastern European development projects worth c. €100 million.
  • partner acting for an Israeli property investment group in an ad hoc London based arbitration under English law against former joint venture partners where Elliot’s clients claim for in excess of $4 million following the failure of a $25 million Los Angeles property development.

Elliot has also: acted for an Israeli run offshore security services company in a c. $5 million ICC arbitration against the Secretary of State for the Armed Forces of a Latin American state; assisted in the preparation and management of the defence of the lead defendant of forty defendants in a major international banking claim; acted in defending extradition claims by the governments of France and Australia against international businessmen based in the UK; acted in contested international probate disputes; advised international telecoms companies in a variety of matters including an alleged carousel fraud; and he has advised in defamation claims and professional negligence claims against insurance brokers, accountants, solicitors, specialist valuers and industrial manufacturers.

Elliot is married with three children and lives in Israel.
