Asserson Law Offices (ALO) celebrated on 14 September, 2009 its four year anniversary and the opening of its new office, in Tel Aviv. To mark the occasion, the British Ambassador to Israel, Tom Philips, gave the opening address, mentioning the importance of building financial links between Israel and the UK. The Event was attended by nearly 300 guests from Israel and abroad.
Notably, at the event, Lord Kalms of Edgware, who created DSG International plc (formerly the Dixons Group), spoke about the importance of entrepreneurship and the recent global economic crisis, amongst other things. Lord Kalms said:
"…Of legal practices resourcing the best talents, offering the most competitive prices…Giving value where it had not previously existed at a demanding quality level is the market economy at its best and it is a huge tribute to Trevor Asserson and his colleagues for finding a new way of doing an old task…"
Notable also was the speech given by William A. Frey, CEO of Greenwich Financial Services LLC, who has recently become the voice for the mortgage backed bond holders - at the heart of the recent financial crisis. Frey is leading a multi billion class action to prevent the US Government from allowing banks to vary the terms of bonds, at the expense of the bondholders.
Trevor Asserson, founder of ALO, mentioned the vision for the firm which includes the recently launched Arab Desk in the Tel Aviv office. Trevor stated:
"… We are today celebrating the opening of our Tel Aviv office. But our vision goes beyond that. Drawing on the Arab world experience of the newly arrived Ariel Ezrahi – formerly of Lovells - we have now opened our own Arab Desk here in Tel Aviv. There is no reason why our neighbours in the Palestine Authority, Egypt and Jordan – all of whom look to English law and England as their gateway to Europe – should not get their advice here in Israel, locally and at competitive prices”
Asserson Law Offices, is a unique English law firm, whose offices are entirely staffed by English lawyers in Israel, taking advantage of the arbitrage between the UK and Israeli overheads to offer English law advice at very competitive prices. The benefits of living in Israel have enabled the firm to attract experienced lawyers from the top City firms, including Herbert Smith, Slaugher & May, Lovells, Allen & Overy and others. Their client roster of Sovereign States; banks, public and private multi-nationals and high net worth individuals shows that the concept is not only practicable, but thriving. Still rated by Chambers as one of London’s top litigators – notwithstanding the location of his office in Israel - Asserson declared that:
“Israel is a brain magnet, attracting the best and the brightest from around the world."
